From the Future for the Future: Lab Grown Diamonds

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

No longer do we have to wait a billion years to have precious diamonds! Real diamonds, with less environmental impact, are all thanks to the power of technology. Celebrities, such as Emma Watson, Lady Gaga, Penelope Cruz, amongst others, have been spotted embracefully donning these sparklers on the red carpet. Let me introduce you to - the diamond of the future.

The natural formation of mined diamonds requires very high temperatures and pressure, taking billions of years to form organically. Lab Grown Diamonds, on the other hand, use a CVD (Chemical vapor deposition) and HPHT (high-pressure high-temperature) process that recreates the temperature and pressure needed to produce a natural mined diamond. What typically took 2 billion years, can now be achieved in a laboratory in a matter of 6 to 10 weeks. Diamonds with the exact same DNA as natural ones, yet conceived differently, at an irresistible price tag.

When it comes to comparing the value or cost of a Lab Grown Diamond versus a traditionally mined diamond, there are differences to get excited about.

Keep in mind that mined diamonds, as well as Lab Grown, are both graded and priced based on the diamond 4 C’s: cut, color, clarity and carat weight. The difference is that Lab Grown Diamonds are priced 30 to 40 percent less than the mined diamonds, despite having the exact same DNA and quality. This means that you can get a bigger and better diamond at a very reasonable price.

As our society is more conscious and aware of the importance of protecting our planet, the only home we have - preserving our natural resources is extremely important and our responsibility. Lab Grown Diamonds are much more environmentally friendly contrary to mined diamonds. Mined extraction is a fossil-fuel-intensive process that can damage the environment. Lab Grown Diamonds are not only eco-friendly and conflict-free, but they are also helpful as many brands donate parts of their profits to amazing causes.

Did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio has become one of the biggest investors in the synthetic jewelry industry after starring in the 2006 film, Blood Diamond? Also, celebrities such as Bindi Irwin amongst many others are choosing Lab Grown Diamonds as their engagement ring.

Many big brands are embracing Lab Grown Diamonds, including the big bridal industry. Companies such as De Beers and James Allen are welcoming this trend by creating Lab Grown Diamond engagement rings and wedding bands. Swarovski is also bringing more excitement to the world of diamonds, having introduced Atelier Swarovski, featuring 16 colors of Lab Grown Diamonds, and collaborating with celebrities such as Penelope Cruz on special collections for the line.

Sustainable luxury is here to make the world a better place - from the future for the future!
